WHERE HAS THE LOVE GONE?

Simon Peter, do you love me? This was Jesus Christ question directed to the son of John. The question was asked thrice. With our human weakness, if you put on Peters shoe, I think the answer could have been, ‘Unataka nikuambie mara ngapi?’(How many times do you want me to tell you?)
This idea of love hit me hard during our three days reflection before the feast our founder Bl. Joseph Allamano. In his sharing, Fr. Lorenzo Gomez put it clearly on the types of love that we have. In our family backgrounds, the love expressed to each other is filial, while that shown by people who are in love is heroes. As Christians, we love God dearly and this is the Agape. He went further and gave an example of Agape type of love, whereby a doctor gave his life to be tortured in the gas chamber at the expense of the children who could have undergone the same. It was a powerful experience we should learn for the sake of our faith.
During this Lenten period, it is time that we are called to fast and participate in alms giving for our brothers and sisters who have nothing and are suffering. Time to express our love to our neighbors and feel the experience they go through.
It is quite unfortunate that the love we had for one another is no more. Remember the clothes that we used to share whenever a journey arose, the salt we borrowed from one another with a lot of trust. Does it mean that the trust is no more?. During this Lenten period in alms giving, people will be giving out the clothes that are worn out or the ones that are not liked. Where is the love if you dare give me an old clothe?, or that bad shirt that you don’t need?
People of God, love is diverse and it starts on the small things that we do to other people. Let us see the image of God in the other and appreciate by doing good and being good to others. Opening up to this kind of reality of love, all sorts of bad things; violence, crime, hatred, envy etc will be past tense in our country Kenya. Let’s all choose peace through LOVE. Blessed Lenten season.
